Like all good proofreaders, I check spelling, grammar and punctuation. Like all good editors, I make sure that the text is clear and unambiguous.

In maths books, I apply the same rigorous checks to the maths. I make sure that diagrams are clear and easy to read, and that they are in the right place; I follow through worked examples to check that each step is correct; I check that exercise questions contain all the information necessary to answer them and I can check that any answers given in the book are right. In short, I proofread or edit the maths as well as the text.

Qualifications and experience

Formats

I am comfortable working on-screen with PDF, Word or LaTeX documents. PDFs can be marked up with the British Standards Institution (BSI) proofreading marks or with comments explaining the required changes. Word documents can be marked up with comments, or using the Track Changes feature. I can also provide a ‘clean’ version of the corrected document, with all comments and mark-up removed. I am also happy to work on hard-copy, and can mark up using either the BSI marks or written comments.
